Permalloy Machining for Magnetically Sensitive Equipment

Permalloy's extremely high magnetic permeability makes it the go-to material for magnetic shielding and flux-path components in sensors, photomultipliers and precision instruments. Its magnetic performance, however, lives and dies by chemistry — small deviations in the Ni/Fe balance visibly shift the permeability curve.

Why ProtoTech

Why equipment manufacturers choose us

Chemistry is the specification

Spectrometer verification of incoming Ni-Fe stock against the specified grade — because magnetic properties follow chemistry.

Machined with the right touch

Permalloy work-hardens; sharp tooling and correct parameters preserve both dimensional accuracy and material condition.

Traceable for your audits

Batch traceability, EN 10204 3.1 certificates and Zeiss CMM dimensional reports.

How we work

From Drawing to Delivered Part

A transparent, engineering-led process built for long-term supply programs — not one-off transactions.

1

Submit & Review

Send drawings and program context. Our engineers run a DFM review and flag tolerances, materials and risk before any cutting begins.

2

Quote & Material Plan

You receive a transparent quote plus a material-verification plan — grade, EN/DIN check and certificate strategy for your application.

3

Machine & Inspect

In-house precision machining, then Zeiss CMM dimensional inspection and spectrometer material verification on critical batches.

4

Deliver & Support

Kitted, ESD-safe or cleanroom packaging, with local engineering and after-sales support through our German partner.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Magnetic shielding cans and enclosures, flux-guiding cores and pole pieces in sensors, photomultiplier tubes and precision instruments.
Its high permeability depends on a near-exact nickel/iron ratio and trace elements. A chemistry drift that would be trivial elsewhere can visibly shift magnetic performance — so we verify stock at incoming inspection.
Machining can introduce stress that affects permeability — which is why correct tooling, parameters and handling matter. Tell us your application and we flag material-condition considerations in the DFM review.

What happens after you send your files

  • Within 1 business day an engineer — not a salesperson — reviews your drawings and replies.
  • DFM review: tolerances, material and risk flags, before any cutting begins.
  • Your quote includes a material-verification plan: grade, EN/DIN check, certificate strategy.

Every critical dimension is verified on our in-house Zeiss CMM · material chemistry confirmed by spectrometer · EN 10204 3.1 certificates available.
